The Three Trees

Jonathan, Hannah and Josiah had the great opportunity of singing in a chorus for a play. The play, called The Three Trees, is based on the poem of the same name. In the story, three trees in the forest are having a discussion about what they want to be when they grow up. One desires to hold treasures, the second to become a ship carrying kings and the third to just point to God. After the woodcutter comes and cuts all three trees down ("It will just hurt for a moment!") the three trees find themselves carrying out their dreams in a way not like they expected. The first tree becomes a manger holding food for animals, but later holds the baby Jesus. The second becomes a fishing boat, but is the boat from which Jesus stills the storm. The third tree gets left in a corner unused until the day of Christ's crucifixion arrives, and the boards become his cross.

It was a great play, full of tree puns (which some of you would enjoy much more than others!) and the children loved singing in the chorus.
