The Bahamas!!!

Jon and I recently celebrated our 10th Anniversary by taking a trip to the Bahamas together (no kids !!!).

After a day of travelling, here we are on our way to Spanish Wells from North Eleuthera where our plane landed. The water is just the most beautiful shade of blue!

Here is a view of the nearby islands on our way into the Spanish Wells harbour.

We enjoyed the beach on Sunday afternoon... good thing because Tropical Storm Noel was on the way!

Stephen and Faye, from the local church invited us over for dinner--Bahamian style! They are also friends of John and Lucy, from when they were in the Bahamas. This is lobster--known as crawfish in the Bahamas, and is different then the Maritime lobster we are familiar with--much tastier!


On the nearby island of Eleuthera, this bridge, known as the glass bridge, separates the Atlantic ocean from the Caribbean Sea. With the tropical storm on the way in the Atlantic, the difference between the two was incredible. The bridge was closed to traffic, and this was as close as our taxi driver would let us go! The waves will crash right over the bridge when the storm gets worse. The waves were pounding with a mighty spray on the Atlantic side:


while on the Caribbean side the ocean was calm. These pictures were taken from the same point on the road! As the Tropical Storm advanced, we watched our neighbour's yard fill with water. The wind and driving rain were just incredible. Another sign of our Almighty Creator.

As the "eye" of the storm passed over, many people were out like we were, taking advantage of the calm to check out the conditions on the island. There was alot of flooding so these guys used a different form of transportation! We were in a golf cart, so we couldn't go down this road! By the next day, most of the water was gone.


After the storm the sun did return! So we went to Harbour Island, one of the top ten beaches in the world. This is the pathway to the beach. Just gorgeous--the foliage too :)


And this is where we ate lunch, at a specatular resort called Coral Sands. It had an incredible view and served a delicious lunch (Conch fritters for Jon, Caesar salad with shrimp for Kelley).



The airport we were supposed to fly out of was flooded, so we headed to Nassau via the fast ferry. It was a great trip flying over the ocean!


We stayed on Paradise Island for one night, and headed over to Atlantis, a popular resort there. They have a beautiful aquarium in the resort. This stingray had a "wingspan" of over 14 feet!


And these seahorses were so cute! God created such a variety of creatures--so awesome.


There was also a parade near the resort with great costumes, really REALLY loud music and some amazing dancing!


We strolled through the straw market in Nassau--lots of things for sale for "a bargain!!".

We saw beautiful cruise ships at the dock and enjoyed walking through Nassau for the morning.


Then we headed to the airport, and flew back home to enjoy the next 10 years! Thanks so much to Nana and Papa V., Gramma and Opa J., and DW and Sarah for taking care of our kiddies!!
